Lilly Allen song recommended by Bishop for churchgoers
A bishop has suggested that churchgoers should listen to one of Lilly Allen's songs as part of a Bible study course in the lead up to Easter.
Rt Rev Stephen Croft, the Bishop of Sheffield, has recommended that parishioners listen to Allen's The Fear, among other songs.
He said that the radio version of the song – which is without expletives - captures a "certain spirit" of the modern age, in particular with its references to materialism.
"There is a pretty clear instruction in the book to group leaders to check out the lyrics first and to make sure that they use the version that is played on the radio, not the unexpurgated version," Rev Croft said.
"I am not commending it as a way to think, but the song sums up a particular way of seeing the world which is very common, which is confused and afraid but also confident."
The Fear includes Lily singing about wanting money, clothes, diamonds, and aspiring to be famous.
The lyrics add: "I don't care about clever, i don't care about funny."
